The Story Behind the Song – Episode 3 “An Invitation”

Sometimes God brings people along your path at just the right time. We have had the privilege to be influenced by so many people and their impact on our life has been profound.

Once of those people is our dear friend, Patricia Long – she is a wonderful Christian, published author, and gifted writer. Her perseverance and testimony through difficulty is an inspiration to us all.

Roughly a year and a half ago she wrote a song that God gave to her at one of those difficult moments. Bec and I were so moved by the words and the melody we began to work on it with her and ultimately recorded it on our latest album.

Here is her story behind the song

“Hi Pastor Josh,
The first draft, lyrics and music of “An Invitation” was written right after a Doctors appointment and only minutes before I had a piano lesson [with Bec]. I had just received another terminal diagnosis. I could stop breathing at night and had done so 3 times already. Each could be fatal and would continue until I received an urgent surgery on my C spine (neck). 
I was gathering my books to take for my final piano lesson as I could no longer lift my arms due to severe pain and loss of muscle control. I was hurting deeply for my family for they would go through yet another arduous journey. I was also in sorrow that I would not learn to play hymns on the piano, something I had longed to do since childhood.
Jesus bid me to sit at the piano and whispered the ‘draft’ of “An Invitation”.  In only seven minutes as I wrote His whispers, He met my utmost needs deep within. He gave me great comfort, precious peace and steadfast assurance that I have an invitation from the King! He then whispered for me to let my loved ones know not to weep for I would someday accept that beautiful invitation and rise to meet Jesus. Is there anything greater?
