What an awesome week it has been! A song I wrote right at the beginning of the pandemic has become No. 1 on the RadioMusicDJ charts, hard to believe.
I remember early on during the pandemic, might have late March or early April I couldn’t sleep one night. I was being inundated like everyone else with the 24 hr news cycle and constantly “doom-scrolling” on my phone trying to gather every piece of information I could. While I was tossing and turning a phrase came to my mind that I hadn’t heard in years, “live to fight another day”.
This might be hard for you to believe but when I was younger I would argue and get into verbal fights a lot. I had the constant need to be right all the time – and maybe I still do. One piece of advice my mom gave to me when I was in another one of my arguments was, “Josh, you might be right but sometimes it’s good to let it go and live to fight another day.”
There are so many things in life we don’t have control over, and we can spend all our time fighting and arguing about it, or we can choose to be an agent of change where we have influence. Like the chorus says, we can hold our families close, we can pray for those who are fighting for their lives, and we can meet the needs where we have the ability to make a difference. I’m convinced that will be a light and an influence to those around us most of all to our children who will follow our example.
The real fight worth winning is the fight of good over evil. Why waste your time arguing over things that don’t matter when it comes to eternity? People won’t care about your “good words” until they’ve seen your “good works”. Christians let us show the love of Christ so we can “live to fight another day”.
